Savannah Guthrie visits ‘TODAY’ studio as she plans to eventually return to show

Savannah Guthrie Returns to ‘TODAY’ Studio Amid Mother’s Disappearance Investigation

On Thursday, Savannah Guthrie, a co-anchor of the NBC morning show, made a brief appearance at the TODAY studio. This visit came as the search for her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, entered its 32nd day. The family has been in the Tucson area since Nancy was last seen on February 1, following her absence from a friend’s home where she was supposed to join an online church service.

Supporting Family While Staying Connected

A TODAY spokesperson noted that Savannah’s visit was a way to reunite with her colleagues and express gratitude for their support. “While she intends to return to the air, her current focus is on her family and the efforts to locate Nancy,” the statement emphasized. The visit was not broadcast, highlighting her desire to remain close to her loved ones during this challenging time.

“She said that she has the intention to return to the show, even though it feels like the hardest thing to do, it’s also her home and where she feels so loved,” Jenna Bush Hager shared while addressing Savannah’s presence on air.

Clues and Investigative Progress

Authorities have categorized Nancy’s case as a potential kidnapping or abduction, though evidence has been limited. Surveillance footage from a doorbell camera, recovered by the FBI on the morning of her disappearance, shows an armed and masked individual near the Guthrie residence. The suspect, described as a male between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build, was seen carrying a black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack.

Sheinelle Jones, co-host of the third hour of TODAY, added emotional context to the moment. “We’re not out of the storm, but there’s a light somewhere even in the midst of the storm,” she remarked. “I think her coming here and just being able to be with us, and for us to be able to hug her, I think it’s a step,” Jones continued, noting that she reassured Savannah: “Whenever you are ready, we are here.”

Family’s Ongoing Appeal for Help

The Guthrie family has pledged a $1 million reward for any information leading to Nancy’s recovery. In a statement on February 24, Savannah expressed both hope and uncertainty about her mother’s fate. “While we believe she can come home, we also know that she may be lost and may already be gone,” she said.

Photographs taken from outside the TODAY studio by an Associated Press journalist captured Savannah wiping tears and embracing her team, reflecting her emotional state during the visit. The images underscore the personal toll of the situation while showcasing her commitment to reconnecting with the show she calls home.

As the investigation continues, the Guthrie family remains united in their search for answers, balancing their personal grief with public advocacy for their mother’s safe return.
