EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Diana dress designer’s companies both go bust

EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Diana’s wedding dress designer faces financial collapse

David Emanuel, the designer behind the iconic ivory silk taffeta and lace gown worn by Lady Diana Spencer during her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles, has faced significant financial setbacks. The dress, which was televised to an estimated 750 million viewers globally, has not translated into long-term success for the Welshman, 73.

Both of Emanuel’s businesses have collapsed, leaving him with a combined debt of nearly £300,000. Recent filings reveal that Licensed to Design, established in 2002, owes £280,443, while Renaissance Man, formed in 2018, carries an additional £19,557. Assets valued at £164,000 are deemed ‘uncertain to realise,’ and no cash is available for creditors.

Fixtures and fittings worth £96,000 are also listed as uncertain, alongside directors’ loans of £60,000. Total liabilities include £72,000 in corporation tax owed to HMRC, £103,000 to NatWest Bank, and £33,000 to Ovo Energy. His daughter Eloise is among the creditors, with a claim of £5,000, while Emanuel himself is owed £44,438.

Legal battle over design rights

David Emanuel recently lost a High Court case against his former wife, Elizabeth, over alleged copyright infringement. He argued that she had reproduced their collaborative designs without his permission, leading to a financial dispute that culminated in the court ruling.

Strictly Come Dancing star Erin Boag, 50, revealed that her 11-year-old son Ewan suffered a severe injury in a playground accident. His finger was severed during the incident, prompting an urgent trip to St George’s Hospital in Kingston, south-west London.

‘When I say severed, I mean severed,’ Boag explained on her podcast. ‘They did an operation on Ewan and saved his finger.’ The New Zealand-born mother praised the NHS for their role in her son’s recovery, expressing gratitude for his return to sports and piano playing.
