France: Two More Arrests in Foiled Bank of America Attack
French authorities confirmed the arrest of two additional individuals linked to a thwarted bombing attempt at the Paris branch of Bank of America. The first suspect’s detention was extended as part of ongoing investigations. The incident occurred late at night, near the iconic Champs-Elysees, according to reports from the French AFP news agency.
A day earlier, police had detained one person after an attempted explosion outside the bank. His accomplice managed to escape the scene. The suspects were spotted carrying a shopping bag, with one reportedly placing a device containing an ignition system and a liquid fuel container before being stopped. The other fled immediately.
“Well done to the rapid intervention of a Paris police prefecture unit, which made it possible to thwart a violent act of a terrorist nature overnight in Paris,” said Interior Minister Laurent Nunez in a statement. “Vigilance remains at a very high level,” he added, praising the coordination of security forces.
Authorities identified the first arrested suspect as having been recruited through the Snapchat app for the attack, in exchange for €600. The device recovered included approximately 650 grams of explosive powder, which is being analyzed in a forensics lab. The PNAT, France’s national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office, confirmed an investigation into terrorism-related charges, such as the use of incendiary or explosive devices.
Since US-Israeli strikes on Iran began last month, security has been intensified around US institutions and Jewish community sites. Additional measures include enhanced protection for certain exiled Iranian opposition figures. A spokesperson for Bank of America stated they were aware of the situation and maintaining communication with French officials.
