Channel 4 scraps Bake Off episode starring Scott Mills

Channel 4 Scraps Bake Off Episode Featuring Scott Mills

Channel 4 has confirmed it will not air a celebrity episode of The Great British Bake Off that included DJ Scott Mills. The former Radio 2 breakfast show host was dismissed by the BBC in March due to historical allegations of serious sexual misconduct. These claims, involving a teenage boy under 16 between 1997 and 2000, led to a Metropolitan Police investigation in 2016. The case was closed in 2019 after prosecutors found the evidence insufficient for criminal charges. However, the BBC recently learned of the victim’s age, prompting the sacking of Mills last month.

Despite the earlier police inquiry, which Mills described as “fully co-operated and responded” to, the broadcaster decided to remove his episode from the schedule. A statement from Channel 4 noted: “Acknowledging the gravity of the accusations against Scott, we believe it would not be suitable to broadcast the episode at this time.” An alternate episode will now replace his, as the competition continues.

Mills was set to appear alongside singer Rag’n’Bone Man, DJ Edith Bowman, and JLS member Aston Merrygold. His inclusion in the show was part of a collaboration with Stand Up To Cancer. The decision to exclude him comes amid additional setbacks. The DJ has also been removed from the lineup for Boyzone’s upcoming Two For The Road concerts at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium in June.

Scott Mills Steps Back From Other Roles

Following his BBC sacking, Mills has stepped down as an ambassador for the MS Society UK. The charity stated: “Scott Mills has been a valued MS Society Ambassador for over 10 years. In light of the current news, Scott is stepping back from this role while we review the situation.” The organization emphasized its commitment to the MS community, prioritizing trust and support for those affected by the condition.

Additionally, children’s cancer charity Neuroblastoma UK has decided to “part ways” with Mills, who served as a patron since 2021. The DJ had previously shared his enthusiasm for the events, quoting: “What a dream to support the lads this summer, it’s going to be two nights of big tunes, big singalongs and plenty of 90s nostalgia. I hope you’re ready!” Fellow 90s pop groups S Club and B*Witched have been confirmed as support acts for the concerts.

Mills’ mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2015, which led to his appointment as an ambassador for the MS Society UK. His comments on the allegations highlight his stance: “Since the investigation relates to an allegation from nearly 30 years ago and the police inquiry was closed seven years ago, I hope the public and media will understand and respect my wish to avoid further public comment.” The case underscores the ongoing scrutiny of his past actions.
