China Issues Nuclear Warning to Russia as Ukraine Intensifies Maritime Operations
Ukraine Russia war latest – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that Beijing has communicated a firm message to Moscow regarding the potential deployment of nuclear armaments during the ongoing conflict. According to the Ukrainian leader, Chinese officials made it clear that Russian forces should not consider utilizing nuclear capabilities against Ukraine under any circumstances.
I think you heard such voices in Russian media: ‘What if we respond to Ukrainian strikes with nuclear weapons?’ And it seems to me that this was the first time China … directly responded in an ultimatum-like form — that there can be no thought whatsoever of using nuclear weapons,
Zelensky shared these observations with journalists on Thursday, noting that this represented a significant diplomatic development. The Ukrainian president characterized Beijing’s position as unprecedented in its directness and clarity regarding nuclear escalation scenarios.
Maritime Disruption Campaign Gains Momentum
Concurrently, Ukrainian military forces have escalated their operations against Russian maritime infrastructure in the Sea of Azov. The Ukrainian armed forces reported targeting more than twelve Russian tanker vessels during Thursday’s operations, contributing to broader efforts to restrict fuel deliveries to Russian military units and to isolate the Crimean peninsula, which remains under Moscow’s control.
Defense ministry statistics indicate that Ukrainian forces struck at least thirty-six Russian vessels within the opening four days of the week. These operations resulted in multiple ships catching fire across both the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea regions. The targeted fleet consisted primarily of thirty-two vessels classified as part of Russia’s “shadow fleet,” alongside two dry cargo carriers. According to official statements, all of these vessels were attempting to transport fuel supplies to Crimea.
The sustained drone campaign launched by Kyiv has triggered significant fuel distribution challenges throughout Russia. Petrol stations across numerous Russian regions have reported increasingly long queues and rising fuel prices as supply chains face mounting pressure from Ukrainian aerial attacks.
Kyiv Endures Ballistic Missile Assault
Local authorities confirmed that eight individuals sustained injuries during Russian missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital earlier in the day. Among the casualties was an eleven-year-old boy. The bombardment caused structural damage to buildings across several districts of Kyiv.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko provided updates on the casualties, noting that four injured persons required hospitalization while others received on-site medical attention. The initial explosions were reported by residents at approximately 3:40 a.m. local time, prompting Ukraine’s Air Force to issue an urgent alert concerning incoming ballistic missiles.
Further explosions occurred roughly fifteen minutes later as Ukrainian air defense systems engaged the incoming threats. The bombardment resulted in widespread disruption and property damage throughout the capital city. Klitschko identified hit locations in the Dniprovskyi district, while Tymur Tkachenko, who leads the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported building damage in the Sviatoshynskyi district and a fire in an office structure within the Solomianskyi district.
Patriot Missile Production License Under Consideration
President Zelensky outlined the strategic challenges and opportunities Ukraine faces following the United States announcement regarding a potential license for domestic production of Patriot missile interceptors. Speaking after his return from Turkey, where he participated in NATO summit discussions with international leaders, Zelensky emphasized that while no specific timeline has been established, additional PAC-3 systems are expected to be delivered.
There are no dates set yet, but there will be additional PAC-3s,
The Ukrainian president described Patriot missile supply and production as the nation’s foremost priority, noting that the government is addressing the challenge through multiple channels simultaneously. First, Kyiv is pursuing authorization from Washington to manufacture Patriot systems domestically. Second, through the PURL initiative, Ukraine is securing substantial European funding to acquire PAC-3 and PAC-2 missiles for existing systems. Third, Ukrainian officials are collaborating with European allies to obtain supplementary missiles until domestic production capabilities are fully operational.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
U.S. President Donald Trump highlighted the “very good relationship” he has cultivated with his Ukrainian counterpart during the NATO summit held in Turkey on July 8, 2026. Their meeting demonstrated a marked improvement compared to previous encounters, with Trump also praising Ukraine’s population. While the American president has expressed varying perspectives privately in earlier periods, the current diplomatic trajectory appears positive.
For more than a decade, our organization has organized and conducted public opinion polls in Ukraine. While polling has become more difficult since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, our surveys have provided a window into Ukrainian public sentiment during this critical period of conflict and international engagement.
