New Nintendo Switch 2 console model to be released only in Europe claims report

New Nintendo Switch 2 Model Targeted at Europe, Report Says

According to a recent report, Nintendo faces pressure to introduce a new Switch 2 model in Europe due to regulations imposed by the European Union. The legislation, part of the right to repair movement, aims to reduce electronic waste by mandating replaceable batteries in all consumer devices by 2027.

The current Switch 2 has been on sale for nearly a year, with some consumers anticipating a Lite variant before making a purchase. However, the upcoming update appears to be more about design tweaks than a full-fledged revision. Japanese outlet

reports that Nintendo is modifying the console to allow users to replace its battery without specialized tools.

While the changes are reportedly focused on the European market, analysts suggest the company might extend these modifications to Japan and the US if consumer demand for easier repairs grows. The UK, though not part of the EU, is expected to receive the updated console given its access to the same hardware and games as the rest of Europe.

Existing Switch 2 models in Japan are already priced lower than their Western counterparts, equivalent to £235, as a result of the yen’s current exchange rate. If Nintendo introduces a European-specific model, it would mark the first time the three major markets—Europe, Japan, and the US—have distinct versions of the console.

The original Nintendo Switch, which also features a battery integrated into its casing, may or may not see similar changes. With its lifecycle nearing an end, there’s speculation Nintendo might prioritize updates for the newer model instead. However, the company has not officially confirmed any revisions, so the details remain unverified.

Notably, Nintendo previously made minor adjustments to the original Switch in 2019, including improvements to battery life. If the latest revision involves only battery accessibility, it might not be marketed as a separate console. The implications of this shift could affect the Switch 2’s design and future iterations.
