Tragedy in Redcar: Infant Dies in Suspected Dog Attack

Cleveland Police confirmed the death of a three-month-old infant following a suspected dog attack in the Redcar area. The incident occurred shortly after 13:30 BST on Thursday at an address in Dormanstown, Hardale Grove. Officers arrived in response to reports indicating a child was in danger.

Actions Taken by Authorities

During the response, police eliminated two dogs—one on the street and another at the property—after determining they were dangerously out of control. A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing fatal injuries through a dog bite. He has since been released on conditional bail.

According to the force, the infant’s death is believed to have resulted from a dog bite. A 31-year-old woman was also injured, sustaining an arm wound and receiving medical attention at a hospital. Both canines were evaluated by a specialist officer, who stated they were not identified as banned breeds.

“Our thoughts remain with the child’s family during this heartbreaking event,” said Ch Supt Rachel Stockdale, head of local policing. “We are maintaining a police presence at the location while the investigation is ongoing. I urge everyone to respect their privacy during this challenging period.”

The police are seeking any information, including video footage, from the public to aid the case. They have also requested updates from individuals who may have noticed unusual behavior from the dogs prior to the incident. Follow BBC Tees on X, Facebook, Nextdoor, and Instagram for further updates.
