Four teens arrested over fatal stabbing of boy, 16
Cambridgeshire Police confirmed the arrest of four teenagers following the death of a 16-year-old boy after he was stabbed. The incident occurred shortly before 7pm BST on Sunday in Riseholme, a neighborhood close to the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough.
St John’s Church School temporarily closed its premises due to a serious event near the building. In an email shared with the BBC, the school stated that police were examining the area in proximity to the site, prompting the decision to shut down. An image captured the significant police presence at the Ortongate Shopping Centre on Sunday evening, with a restricted zone still visible near Riseholme’s entrance the following morning.
“This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man, and we are in contact with his family and keeping them updated,” said Det Ch Insp Richard Stott from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit. “While we understand the death will be concerning for local people, we do not believe this was a random attack and there will be a significant police presence in the area over coming days.”
The suspects include a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, both from Peterborough, charged with murder. Two additional teenagers—a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl—were taken into custody on suspicion of aiding the offender. The 16-year-old girl from March was also charged with possessing a sharp object.
The shopping centre remains open, though its rear car park is currently closed. A large police cordon persists around the area, with heightened security expected for the next several days. Residents have left flowers near the cordoned zone as a gesture of support.
St John’s Church School pledged to keep parents and carers informed about the situation and provide updates on when the school will reopen. Authorities have urged anyone with information or home CCTV footage to contact them.
