Just days prior, President Donald Trump had addressed the nation on Iran, yet the first lady’s speech would thrust the Jeffrey Epstein controversy back into public focus. Officials noted that even the administration’s insiders were unprepared for the subject of her address.
Surrounded by American flags, Melania’s opening line stunned the audience: “The falsehoods connecting me to the scandalous Jeffrey Epstein must cease immediately.” With these words, the long-standing Epstein affair resurfaced, now centered on her public stance. Almost instantly, cable news networks redirected their coverage from Iran to the unfolding drama, highlighting its significance.
Known for her measured public presence, Melania has traditionally kept a low profile, choosing events with strategic intent. Unlike her spouse, she rarely courted headlines with bold declarations. In a prepared statement, she asserted no personal ties to Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell, claimed she was not introduced to her husband by Epstein, and stated she was unaware of his alleged crimes.

Marina Lacerda, a 14-year-old victim detailed in the 2019 federal indictment against Epstein, took to social media to challenge the first lady’s comments. “It seems like you’re shifting focus from one issue to another,” she said. “What’s in it for the Trump family?”
“Melania’s effort to counter the DOJ’s narrative that the Epstein case is settled is a brave step,” said survivor Lisa Phillips. “But she needs to back it up with action. What can she do to support us now? What will she do to push for real progress?”
