Woman Accused of Shooting at Rihanna’s L.A. Home Charged with Attempted Murder

Los Angeles prosecutors announced Tuesday that Ivanna Ortiz, a 35-year-old Florida woman, has been charged with attempted murder following an incident in which she allegedly fired an AR-15-style rifle at Rihanna’s residence. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office also cited 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three felony charges related to targeting inhabited dwellings, including the Airstream trailer on the property.

Ortiz’s arraignment is scheduled for later this month, during which her bail was set at $1.875 million. If convicted, she could face life imprisonment. District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that the charges involve 10 victims: Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky, their three children, three household staff members, and two individuals at a neighboring residence also attacked in the incident.

Neighbors reported seeing a woman possibly wearing a wig drive a white Tesla near Rihanna’s home before gunfire erupted. Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell noted that evidence of gunfire damage was found at the gate, the Airstream trailer, and the adjacent residence. Automatic license plate recognition led officers to Ortiz, who was apprehended during a traffic stop in Sherman Oaks. She was found in the vehicle, which contained the AR-15 rifle, spent casings, and a blond wig.

“When an individual comes into our community and decides to shoot it up, that individual will be arrested and held fully accountable for her actions,” Hochman said at a news conference outside the county courthouse.

Inside the trunk, police discovered additional ammunition and a 30-round magazine. The suspect invoked her right to counsel and made no statements during the encounter. State records in Florida confirm that a woman with the same name is a licensed speech-language pathologist. Her divorce history includes a 2023 incident of violence, as detailed in an arrest affidavit. Ortiz allegedly sent a message to her ex-husband, stating, “You’ll be socked on the nose tonight,” after he dropped off their children at her apartment. A cellphone video reportedly shows her using a homophobic slur against him.

The shooting occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Beverly Crest neighborhood. No injuries were reported, though the attack targeted three inhabited dwellings. The Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office confirmed it has been appointed to represent Ortiz but noted it cannot comment until the case is reviewed in court. “We will work to ensure our client receives constitutional protections,” the office said.
