House Oversight panel votes to subpoena AG Pam Bondi in Epstein probe
The House Oversight Committee, under Republican leadership, approved a subpoena for U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to provide testimony on her involvement in the dissemination of Jeffrey Epstein’s investigative documents. The move received bipartisan backing, with the vote tallying 24-19.
Representative Nancy Mace, a Republican, spearheaded the action, supported by Democrats and fellow GOP members including Tim Burchett, Michael Cloud, Lauren Boebert, and Scott Perry. The subpoena was enacted during a hearing not directly tied to Epstein’s case, marking a new phase in the committee’s broader inquiry into the late sex offender’s affairs.
Congressional lawmakers have raised concerns over the Justice Department’s transparency, following the passage of a law last year mandating the public release of all Epstein-related investigative files. Critics argue the documents were insufficiently disclosed, with redactions drawing scrutiny from both parties. The committee has since sought interviews with several prominent figures, including Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who has agreed to appear later this year.
Before the Wednesday vote, Oversight Chairman James Comer informed the panel that he had consulted with Bondi’s chief of staff and that the attorney general had offered to conduct individual briefings for committee members. CNN has contacted the Justice Department for further remarks.
