Thinking of signing up to Metro’s Lifeline challenge? Here’s everything you need to know
Picture yourself traversing the serene Cotswold hills, feeling the breeze against your skin and the warmth of the sun, while understanding that each stride you take contributes to the fight against dementia. This summer, Metro is inviting you to join an unforgettable journey that blends adventure with purpose.
Event Overview
The 2026 Lifeline challenge will take place on June 13, with participants gathering at the Royal Agricultural University in Circencester. This event unites over 2,000 individuals, including Metro staff, Alzheimer’s Society representatives, and readers like you, all united by a shared goal. The team is diverse in age and ability, and you can join either alone or with friends, depending on what suits you best.
Choosing Your Distance
Participants have the option to complete 25km, 50km, or 100km, with the latter achievable in one go or spread over two days. Regardless of the distance you select, you’ll be part of a supportive group, ensuring you’re never walking solo. Our team will be present to offer guidance, motivation, and a sense of community throughout the event.
As the day draws near, you’ll be invited to join the Lifeline WhatsApp group, which will provide updates on safety, schedules, and the route plan. Regular emails from the charity and event organizers, Action Challenge, will outline start times, route details, and bib numbers. You can expect your start-time confirmation four weeks before the event and your e-ticket 10–14 days prior.
Fundraising Requirements
Before committing, consider your fundraising goals. For the 25km route, the minimum target is £150, while 50km and 100km require £225 and £330 respectively. Registration fees vary depending on your chosen amount, with £15 for the higher targets and £46 for the lower ones. At least 50% of your sponsorship should be raised three weeks before the challenge, and the remaining portion—plus any extra—can be collected within four weeks of finishing.
Alzheimer’s Society offers valuable fundraising tips and inspiration, and Metro’s team loves sharing ideas like bake sales and pub quizzes. If you have questions, Action Challenge’s FAQ section on the sign-up page is a great resource.
