Guthrie case investigators question neighbors about any internet issues on the night she disappeared

Law enforcement teams seeking clues in the search for Nancy Guthrie have inquired with local residents about potential internet disturbances on the evening she vanished. On Thursday, officers from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI visited homes in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona, to gather information. Multiple homeowners reported that the agents specifically asked if they had encountered any connectivity problems during the time of Guthrie’s disappearance.

Neighbors Report Glitch in Ring Camera

Several residents shared with NBC News that the investigators mentioned rumors of internet glitches in the area that night. Two homeowners added that the agents also asked about video footage from January 11, though authorities have not confirmed whether this date holds significance. Three individuals who were asleep or away at the time of the abduction said they couldn’t recall any internet issues.

“That’s really weird, isn’t it?”

A couple living near Guthrie’s home, however, noted a glitch in one of their Ring cameras during the same timeframe. They described how the camera closest to her residence displayed a “not available” message when they checked footage from the overnight hours of her disappearance. The other cameras, placed farther away, functioned without problems. They emphasized that they had never seen this warning before and found it “uncanny” that it occurred precisely during the abduction.

Savannah Guthrie Returns to the TODAY Show

Savannah Guthrie, who has been on leave from her role at the TODAY show, visited the New York City studio this week. She expressed plans to resume her duties but highlighted her focus on supporting her family and aiding the search for Nancy. A show spokesperson stated, “While she plans to return to the show on air, she remains focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home.”

More than a month after Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. The 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie was last seen around 9:45 p.m. on January 31 after dinner with her other daughter. She was reported missing on February 1 when she failed to appear at a friend’s house for a livestreamed church service.

The FBI has released doorbell camera footage and images of an armed, masked man wearing gloves near Guthrie’s home on the night of her disappearance. The suspect’s height is estimated between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches, with an average build. He was seen carrying a black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack. When asked earlier this week if he thought the suspect might have used a Wi-Fi jammer, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos responded, “I’ve not looked at that closely, but yeah, I know that my team has looked at it with the FBI every angle.”

The Guthrie family announced a $1 million reward on February 24 for information leading to Nancy’s recovery. This follows rewards offered by the FBI and Crime Stoppers. NBC News has contacted Ring for comment on the reported camera glitch, while the sheriff’s department and FBI have not yet explained their focus on internet issues or the Jan. 11 footage.
