American Leader’s Unconventional Portrait Sparks Controversy
President Donald Trump is drawing increasing criticism following a controversial post on Truth Social that portrayed him as a Christ-like figure. The AI-generated depiction, which has since been removed, showed the leader seemingly performing a healing act on a hospital bed. This visual came shortly after he released a detailed critique of Pope Leo XIV, fueling a new chapter in his public disagreements with religious figures. BBC’s Sarah Smith explores the growing tensions around Trump’s portrayal and his supporters’ responses.
Artemis II Crew Breaks Historic Lunar Distance Record
The four astronauts on the Artemis II mission have set a new benchmark for distance from Earth during their 10-day lunar journey. Their orbit around the Moon exceeded the previous mark of 248,655 miles (400,171km), previously held by the Apollo 13 crew in 1970. The crew, including Canada’s first astronaut to venture into deep space, Jeremy Hansen, who received a call from the prime minister, remains in space as they continue their mission.
During the mission, astronauts practiced maneuvering the Orion spacecraft and shared updates with families via video link. Christina Koch, one of the crew members, expressed her relief upon reestablishing contact with Earth:
“It is so great to hear from Earth again.”
The mission, which did not include a lunar landing, has been widely viewed as a crucial step toward NASA’s goal of returning humans to the Moon by 2028. A commercial flight witnessed passengers getting a rare aerial view of the launch, with Science Editor Rebecca Morelle observing from just three miles away as the most powerful rocket ever built lifted off from Florida. Despite delays and technical challenges, the historic flight is now in Earth’s orbit, marking a significant milestone for space exploration.
